SANTA ANA (AP) — An Orange County school district has been accused of illegally discussing teacher salaries and furlough days behind closed doors.
The District Attorney’s office released a report Friday that found Capistrano Unified School District officials violated California’s open meetings laws when they discussed public matters behind closed doors. In two incidents, the board did not disclose key votes on reversing employee pay cuts. In a third meeting, they called a recess and continued deliberations out of earshot of the public.
Prosecutors say the district has a choice of admitting the violations and correcting them, or face legal action.
District Spokesman Marcus E. Walton says he can’t comment on the action until attorneys review the legal documents.
The district serves 51,000 students in south Orange County.
